Former Japanese Lawmaker Appointed as Cardano’s EMURGO Middle East & Africa Adviser

Kenzo Fujisue is a former elected member of the House of Councillors in the Diet (the national legislature of Japan) for eighteen years and a university professor.

DUBAI FEBRUARY 22 2023 / EMURGO Middle East & Africa (“EMURGO MEA”) – EMURGO MEA, a regional entity of Cardano founding entity EMURGO, announced today the appointment of Kenzo Fujisue as a strategic adviser.

Dr. Fujisue will work closely alongside EMURGO MEA co-CEOs Yosuke Yoshida and Shogo Ishida to advise and support the expansion of business activities aimed at driving the adoption of Cardano and Web3 in the region.

Dr. Fujisue brings a wealth of experience and business and academic connections built through his extensive career as an elected Japanese legislative member and university professor, which will assist EMURGO MEA in forging strategic relations with important external stakeholders such as government officials, business leaders, and top-tier universities.

He is researching on Web3 as a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo, is an adjunct professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), an expert adviser at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and will be an adjunct professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) this March.

As a ranking member of the House of Councillors (upper house) in the Japanese Diet (national legislature) from 2004 to 2022, Dr. Fuijsue was involved in and led policy-making legislative initiatives as well as overseas legislative exchanges with foreign lawmakers. Before becoming a lawmaker, Dr. Fujisue spent his career in academia as a university professor at the University of Tokyo.

As a lawmaker, Dr. Fujisue was well-known for his deep understanding and friendly views towards supporting the growth of blockchain and Web3,” said EMURGO MEA co-CEO Yosuke Yoshida. “His addition will undoubtedly bring more opportunities to develop the necessary relationships that can help us build the foundation for Cardano and Web3 to grow in the region.”

“Dr. Fujisue’s years of government and academia experience will support EMURGO MEA to connect with regulators and universities to build awareness of Cardano as a technological platform that delivers socially impactful Web3 solutions,” said EMURGO MEA co-CEO Shogo Ishida. “For Web3 to flourish, we need everyone including government officials, business executives, education officials, and the general public to understand the societal benefits it can deliver and then craft friendly policies which can help the industry grow.”

Dr. Fujisue is a native of Kumamoto, Japan, and holds a bachelor’s degree from the Tokyo Institute of Technology and dual master’s degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University in the United States, and has two Ph.D. degrees in International Affairs and Industrial Management.
